Workshops, Seminars and Programs for Body, Mind and Spirit

The Center is actively interested in developing, designing and providing information and programs for personal growth and development. The personal development, enrichment and renewal programs offered by the Center are designed for persons who seek a higher level of personal understanding and meaning in the areas of their life they consider most important. These programs offer a unique blend of health and learning information, presented in interesting and active formats in the workshop or seminar style. Programs often focus on communication, emotional well being, building more new partnerships and healthful communities, developing personal assets.  Programs are offered throughout the year. Opportunity for healing, growth, change and interpersonal renewal are important to enable us to live fulfilling and satisfying lives that have meaning and connection to our inner selves and the outer world. In personal development, enrichment and renewal programs, staff encourages and supports attainment of new ideas in health and learning that compliment positive lifestyles, professional identity, and interpersonal experiences.

These workshops are a unique blend of health and learning information, techniques, methods, innovative educational experiences and opportunities for growth, change and interpersonal renewal. The workshops are ideal for adults who wish to change personal directions in private life or work settings, understand and learn new ways of relating to others and overcome internal conflicts that restrict expression, intimacy and personal goals. Using information and staff from both the Counseling Clinic and the Learning Studios, this workshop helps adults identify new sources of strength, awareness and interpersonal meaning. These workshops, while not a substitute for therapeutic care, help individuals and couples experience growth and change in new and creative ways, often without the need for extensive counseling or therapy.

The personal development, enrichment and renewal workshops are innovative and inspiring programs for adults who want to find greater purpose, meaning and significance in their life. The workshops are an educational process designed to assist in making important discoveries and changes that may enhance personal awareness and interpersonal abilities while bringing clarity to meaning and the significance of each person’s experiences and gifts. Many have found that workshops of this type are excellent in helping make personal changes without the need for more extensive counseling or therapeutic work and are excellent additions or “boosters” to counseling or therapy in which they be already involved. These workshops may be highly complimentary to other professional assistance, counseling or therapy persons may be receiving.

None of these workshops promote a philosophy, provide therapy or sell any product or service. These workshops are simply a unique offering of series of personal educational and carefully facilitated experiences and processes designed to help persons recognize, understand and utilize their individual meaning, purpose and innovative pathways toward a more rewarding and fulfilling life. While therapy or treatment is not a part of nor offered through any workshop, personal, behavioral, attitudinal and psychological changes are often the result of participating in the educational programs. All programs are conducted by trained facilitators with years of personal and professional experience and training in their respective fields. If therapeutic change or work is an interest or need of participants, workshop facilitators willingly and gladly provide no-cost recommendations and referrals to appropriate healthcare practitioners, agencies or other professional services.

What Participants Gain From These Workshops
Each person who participates in these workshops gain unique skills, awareness and insights. No two people experience the workshops the same way, and each person departs with the feeling of participation in a very personal, intimate and unique learning experience. Generally, participants are able to:

Workshop Topics
Using advanced and innovative educational techniques and guided experiences, the workshops help refine and integrate personal strengths, avoid negative experiences with advanced cutting-edge organizational and communication techniques into useful tools for change, personal enrichment, social experiences, interpersonal growth and intimacy. Currently the following workshops are offered:

Emotional Well-Being and Personal Community Building for Women is designed to help adult women understand and create new pathways for finding personal meaning and greater involvement in the world around them. The program focuses on understanding new and existing relationships, personal expectations and goals, and issues of intimacy and renewal. This program is ideal for women experiencing unwanted changes including new difficulties, confusion, or challenges in their life.

Developing Personal Assets for Creative Change and Career Development is a program for youth and adults on how to identify and organize personal assets in private lives and work settings. Understanding personal assets, including how we get them and how we keep them, are keys to enjoying a fulfilling and rewarding life that include meaningful relationships. This program features the renowned Search Institute’s Developmental Asset Model as a guide for personal development. Additionally, through this program it is possible to obtain a Certificate in Personal Assets Guidance which is professional recognition for helping others identify and maximize personal asset development.

Grief Work: Understanding and Overcoming the Power of Loss is a unique workshop for anyone experiencing a significant personal loss or sense of being overcome by consistent feelings of detachment, grief or abandonment. This workshop identifies aspects of loss that are always necessary, including what is in our control and what is not. This program helps distinguish the difference between being lonely and being alone, and the different types of depression based on the variety of losses we experience.

A Community of Men is an informal and supportive coalition of men who endeavor to be more effective, real, genuine, fulfilled and engaged in personal and work life. Men meet to discuss challenges, relationships, commitments and responsibilities in a supportive environment, men learn from each other, share ideas and strengthen personal goals and identity. The Community of Men is an environment supportive of men today.

Closeness and Intimacy in Relationships
Being personal and close is sometimes difficult to do. It is increasingly confusing today to understand the universal meaning of “closeness” and “intimacy” in the variety of roles and life situations in which we find ourselves. It is more challenging to understand how to appropriately express needs for closeness and intimacy in new and existing relationships. This workshop helps participants identify and experience various types of closeness intimacy to enrich new, existing or long-standing relationships. As an experiential process, this workshop helps participants gain self-confidence, self-esteem, and build new communication and personal relating tools for the appropriate expression of the need for closeness and intimacy in all relationships.

The Spirit Filled Life
There are many paths to spiritual understanding and fulfillment. Some paths lead us to a lifelong connection with spirituality and spiritual growth, while some fall far short of our expectations. Connection to spiritual thoughts, discussions, experiences and writings enrich our life regardless of how we personally view spirituality or what belief system we follow, if we follow one at all. This workshop examines the general characteristics of understanding the benefits and beauty of connecting to a “spiritual center” and how a “spirit-filled” or “purpose-driven” life, however defined or practiced, can offer significant meaning, connection and enrichment of a higher order not routinely understood or valued.

There are three ways to experience any of the workshops:

Introductory Session
Workshop introductory sessions are a two-hour no-fee orientation to the workshop process and potential contents. Introductory sessions are offered approximately monthly. This is an excellent opportunity to see and experience, without cost or obligation, the personal potential of the workshop processes and educational content.

Weekend Workshop
The weekend workshops are multi-hour hour program of focused on the topics listed above. Each workshop offers techniques for identifying and using personal assets, incorporating new tools for personal development and stimulating change and growth. Each workshop uses the facilitated structured experiences to enable participants to experience new skills and tools in a safe and supportive environment. The weekend workshops are an effective and intense experience offering participants the opportunity to look closely at various patterns of their lives that work, and those that do not, and how to make immediate and sustained change. The workshops also help identify develop communication skills, building intimacy, creating relationship networks and sorting of and understanding unmet or unfulfilled needs.

Evening Sessions
Evening Sessions are monthly three-hour experiences that focus on strengthening and maintaining the effects and effectiveness of the workshops content. The Evening sessions are designed to help participants who have participated in any of the weekend workshop maintain the newly acquired skills, further refine them, and find new ways to apply them. The evening sessions are open to any past participant of any weekend workshop. Consequently, the mix of these evening sessions can be quite exciting and enriching.

Times, Locations and Cost
All workshops are offered at various times and locations. All programs are available for delivery at locations or sites of any group or organization interested in hosting them. More detailed information and schedule is available upon request. The Introductory and Evening Sessions are offered on selected weekday evenings from 7:30-9:30 PM. The Introductory Session is offered four times per year, or upon request by a group of ten or more. Evening sessions are offered once each month. All weekend workshops begin on Friday evening at 7:00 PM, ending at 10:00 PM and Saturday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Evening Sessions are limited to those who have attended a weekend workshop. There is no cost for the Introductory Workshop. The weekend workshop fee is $125 and the evening workshop is $40 for two sessions.

All workshop services and activities are strictly confidential. Privacy is always respected and recognized as essential by all staff. Confidentiality and privacy is strictly observed by staff and further regulated by state and federal law.

Workshops
Emotional well-being is a part of building more effective interpersonal and personal relationships in all aspects of our lives. The Center for Health and Learning offers a variety of workshops for persons who want to learn more about the patterns of their life and how to gain more personal power, control and understanding of themselves and their world. The workshops are designed to help adults understand and create new pathways for finding personal meaning and greater involvement in the world around them. Individual workshops focus on understanding new and existing relationships, personal expectations and goals, career choices, and issues of intimacy, spirituality and renewal.
