A Resource for Promoting Health, Wellness, Achievement and Lifelong Learning

The Center is a health and learning resource for adults and children. The Center provides diagnostic and therapeutic services, educational information, professional and volunteer training and referrals to community therapeutic resources.

The Center serves as a resource for comprehensive development of health services and initiatives and a coordinating source for health promotion, direct therapeutic service and health policy.

The overall goal of the Center is to promote sound health practices by helping develop and sustain healthcare networks and programs and to facilitate, coordinate and deliver innovative health information and therapeutic services. A secondary goal is to facilitate, coordinate and provide information and therapeutic health and mental health services. Youth directed services and activities are designed to strengthen the relationship between sound health practices and student achievement during school, after school and when out of school.

The Center is organized as a Nevada non-profit organization and directly affiliated with several public and private entities. The center’s work is facilitated through the volunteer board of directors and operates under the direction of a volunteer executive director and staff. The center operates under the autonomous authority of its own board and volunteer governance structure.

The Center provides the opportunity to create a new platform for understanding the relationship between healthy lifestyle choices and success in work, school, family relationships and the communities in which we live. Through virtual technology, healthcare advisors, educational leaders, youth and parents, the Center endeavors to promote effective health services, practices and policies in all communities.

As a resources for positive health choices and assistance, the Center provides and facilitates many services, direct and indirect, to individuals, families and the community. The Center coordinates an integrated resource network of health advisors, trainers, and health practitioners in which to refer. The Center provides an array of unique services which promote school health and wellness, and serves as a referral point for health and mental health services for educators, schools, parents and professionals on issues related to the health, wellness and fitness of all students.

Center for Health and Learning priorities:

Assessment, counseling, psychotherapy and consultation on emotional, behavioral and mental health issues through the Counseling Clinic and referrals to community healthcare professionals

Training and professional development for educators, mental health professionals and volunteers on health and learning issues

Personal development programs to inform, enrich and renew the lives of adults

Promote and facilitate lifelong learning for personal development and career enhancement

Provide informative links, resources and referrals to health and learning programs, organizations, that educate, motivate and inform

Engagement in finding new resources and grants for the advancement and promotion of health and learning for persons of all ages

Development, promotion and facilitation of cutting-edge and evolving technologies, methods, research, and practices for the improvement of health, wellness and learning for children and adults

Providing public information on health and learning issues affecting youth, adults, schools, public agencies and the community

Support for professional development and training of health professionals and community volunteers

Consult and advise the community and policymakers on health and learning issues and innovations

Angela Goodrich
Angela is a Registered Dietician and Registered Nurse with the Nevada Department of Education. She is involved with the health and nutrition program for school age youth in public schools and provides oversight and consultation on varied topics.

Cheryl Williams-Jackson
Cheryl is a social worker and counselor specializing in work with seriously and terminally ill persons and those struggling with chronic physical diseases and stress. She is an active advisor to the Centers Special Programs area and provides individual, couple and family counseling, assessment and specialized training.

Frank Mitchell
Frank is a public school teacher and counselor who provides consultation services and guidance for persons seeking evaluation of credits and academic standing, completion of a high school education, homeschooling options and access and selection of innovative self-study and virtual educational curriculums.

Fred Woodard, (MSW) - LSW
Screening, counseling, social work, advisement and case management

Gary Waters
Gary is the founder of the Center and clinician with multiple credentials and licenses in clinical social work, martial and family therapy and educational psychology, counseling and administrationHe served twelve years on the Nevada State Board of Education and is currently appointed by the Nevada Governor to the Nevada Commission on Postsecondary Education. He has multiple governmental, business and non-profit organization experience. He provides organizational, administrative and clinical services to the Center.

Gloria Trujillo
Gloria is a retired employee of the Clark County Schools District. She provides periodic support and administrative services to the Center and staff.

Harriet Schafer
Harriet is a strong advocate for children and the elderly, and has over 40 years of experience as a caregiver of health and health support services. She represents the public on the Board of Directors and assists in helping develop services and programs accessible by the public.

Jim Barbee
Jim is a staff member of the Nevada Department of Education with professional interests in agriculture and the relationship between the people who grow food and the evolving interaction between education, agriculture, rural life and the environment.

John Faitta
John is a licensed social worker with extensive training and experience in mental health casework, consultation and diagnostic assessment. He provides case consultation, counseling and clinical referral services.

John Karras
John is a retired naval officer and substitute teacher in the Clark County School District. As an advisor he represents the health interests and continued learning needs of active retired adults.

Keith Rheault
Keith is the Superintendent of Public Instruction for Nevada and serves as Nevada’s Chief State School Officer. He is responsible for the oversight of federal legislation impact in Nevada, teacher licensing, and educational quality and accountability in all of Nevada’s public education programs, services and activities. Keith provides organizational and grant development consultation and supports the Center through advisesment on identification of educational needs and learning priorities.

Lissa Baker
Lissa is a member of the training faculty and serves as a clinical resource for individuals and groups. She provides services to youth and adults and conducts assessments, training and tutoring at various levels.

Rebecca Matsis
Rebecca is a businesswoman and realtor in Las Vegas and a lifelong advocate for wellness and emotional health. Rebecca is committed to developing new community resources in the area of grief, loss recovery and spiritual development and renewal. Rebecca serves on the Center’s Board of Directors.

Field Associates and Agencies
The Center maintains an extensive network of over fifty licensed professional field associates and human service agencies.  This network is used as a primary source for referral of individuals and families for clinical and psychotherapeutic services, counseling, assessment and treatment.  The network is also a source for professional facilitators of workshops, seminars and related professional training offered by the center throughout the year.

Regis University - Las Vegas
Marital and Family Therapy Program
Regis provides faculty consultation and clinical supervision of graduate students in marital and family therapy. Regis students provide counseling services in the centers counseling clinic.

University of Nevada - Las Vegas
School of Social work
The school provides faculty supervision, clinical cosultation and internships for graduate students in clinical and community social work study. Social work interns provide clinical services at various sites and in the center's counseling clinic.

The Center offers a wide variety of counseling services for children, adolescents and adults. Appointments are available now by calling (702) 383-6012. Workshops
Emotional well-being is a part of building more effective interpersonal and personal relationships in all aspects of our lives. The Center for Health and Learning offers a variety of workshops for persons who want to learn more about the patterns of their life and how to gain more personal power, control and understanding of themselves and their world. The workshops are designed to help adults understand and create new pathways for finding personal meaning and greater involvement in the world around them. Individual workshops focus on understanding new and existing relationships, personal expectations and goals, career choices, and issues of intimacy, spirituality and renewal.
