Emotional, behavioral and family problems can be overcome with specialized professional help. In conjunction with the other community programs and services, the Counseling Clinic offers the services of highly trained healthcare professionals in clinical social work marital and family therapy, human services, educational and guidance, and substance abuse assessment and treatment.

These unique services are designed to assist individuals, couples and families in overcoming barriers to emotional, psychological or social health and creating more satisfactory lifestyle and personal life experiences. Trained professionals provide services for such problems as depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, academic worries, family conflicts, relationship problems with family or friends, divorce adjustment, eating and weight concerns, parenting or custody problems, substance abuse issues, aggressive or abuse behavior, and many others. Special programs and workshops are offered through the Counseling Clinic staff in cooperation with various independent practitioners. These educational and informative programs offer a unique opportunity to gain a great deal of information and personal growth quickly and at a very low cost –often avoiding the cost and time of more extensive psychotherapeutic services.

Locations and Times of Counseling Services
Services are provided at various sites throughout the community, including our clinical counseling offices, community locations and even health clinics located in some schools. All services are provided at times most convenient for the individual, couple or family receiving them. Every effort is made to accommodate busy schedules. Services are available during day and on some evenings. Some programs and most workshop programs are available on evenings and weekends.

Cost of Counseling?
Our relationship with community agencies and professional training schools and other organizations allow us to offer very low cost and sometimes no-cost counseling services. It is our fundamental belief that counseling should be low-cost, affordable, and effective. Youth of school age may receive some or all services at no cost. A sliding scale fee structure for adults, families and couples for certain more specialized assistance allows these services to be provided at the lowest possible cost. Fees for these specialized services are as low as $30.00. No student or family is turned away or un-served on the basis of financial condition. Referral for services provided by other agencies or practitioners is always offered at no charge. There is never a charge for telephone consultations regarding counseling information or appointments. For those who qualify, a special grant, administered by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services and the Center for Health and Learning, provide support to selected schools for on-site, school-based mental health screening.

How Long Does Counseling take to be Effective?
Our philosophy is that counseling should not be an overly lengthy or costly process. The length of time a person spends in counseling varies depending on many factors – mostly on the issue being addressed and how long it has been a problem. Many issues can be addressed in one or two sessions, while other problems or concerns may involve up to eight or ten sessions. Sometimes seminar sessions or workshop services are most effective for a particular individual, couple or family issue – thus avoiding the need for intensive and longer term counseling. Our goal is to find the least expensive, most efficient and rapid counseling process to address the needs and concerns of the person, couple or family.
